Winnipeg Police Arrest Nygard

The Winnipeg Police say they made an arrest today following a three-year investigation into allegations against Peter Nygard that date back 30 years. In June of 2020, members of the force’s Sex Crimes Unit began investigating the assault of a then 20-year-old survivor that the division says took place in November of 1993 at Nygard’s corporate headquarters on Notre Dame Ave. The case was then forwarded to Saskatchewan Justice in December 2022 for an independent review at the request of Manitoba Justice. Police say on Monday, based on the opinion of Saskatchewan Justice, officers obtained a warrant for the arrest of the accused 81-year-old on charges of sexual assault and unlawful confinement.

The following day, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit, with help from the Toronto Police Service’s Human Trafficking Enforcement Team, arrested Nygard at the Toronto South Detention Centre where he remains in custody.
