Teen arrested after 13-year-old beaten, robbed in West Winnipeg

Winnipeg Police say they arrested a teen girl after the assault and robbery of another girl in Winnipeg’s Kensington neighbourhood. Officers were called to a parking lot near the corner of Madison Street and Ness Avenue at around 5:15 p.m. on Friday, April 17 where witnesses say a 13-year-old girl was punched and kicked while other youths cheered on the assault and recorded the attack before the girl was robbed of her backpack. Police say they found the girl unconscious.

The victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition with severe head and facial injuries and was since upgraded to stable condition.

The case was forwarded to the WPS major crimes unit which says the month-long investigation found that the victim and suspect knew each other and were in the area together when the beating began unprovoked.

A suspect was identified and arrested at a home on Machray Avenue between McPhillips and McGregor Streets this past Tuesday, May 28. The 15-year-old is facing charges of aggravated assault and robbery, and remains in custody.
